Springtime has started to break winter’s hold on the Midwest as signs of life are peeking up every country lane and down every neighborhood block.
Oak buds have pushed out dead leaves; robin’s nests are under construction and newborn rabbits can now be purchased at feed stores. Even thinking about the season brings a smile to my face.
Signs of life are everywhere, indeed.
Life, however, shines brighter in this photo of 2-year-old Aspen giving her cousin, Jade, a heartbeat check while he’s still safe inside his mother, Brianna’s, womb.
It exudes life all-the-more, because it was taken on the eve of Valentine’s Day this year, and only a week after Aspen was released from St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Precious Aspen conquered pneumonia and the Intensive Care Unit with help of a chest tube drain, meds, a team of experts and the faith and love of family and friends.
This photo captures life on both ends. Aspen’s spared life is connected to Jade’s pending birth with more than a toy stethoscope. Innocent light shined from life in both babies during the baby shower held that day in Missouri.
The Bible says, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them” (Psalm 139:13-16, NKJV).
God revealed His love for creation and His desire for relationship with us all throughout His Word. His love is astounding and great is His faithfulness! Spring is yet another sign of that faithfulness He promised and LIFE that comes through Him.
“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him,
and without Him nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
