I’ve been thinking of the Delhi Sands Flower-loving Fly.
You know the one. The little guy in California that’s federally protected on the Endangered Species List?
The pomace fly made the list as well. Fines are steep for those who infringe on their habitats, or who harm a creature on the list. Up to $50,000 and/or jail time can be imposed for varying crimes against nature.
Yet pre-born children can be dismembered at will.
In 2014 when I was a staff writer for a newspaper, I wrote the following column in response to a Letter to the Editor: “Flies…but not humans.”
I’d like your thoughts on the matter. What value do you think each of them has? How do they differ, and why?
