Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking in a workshop at the annual Iowa Right to Life March for Life conference, and something happened.
Keynote speaker Josh Brahm took this photo of the 4,000 baby shoes and banner which read, “They’d march if they could.” The display was poignant and moving – so much so that the first time I saw it, I couldn’t look at it. Neither could I look at most of the displays from the 10 or 11 other organizations that set up in the same area where my book table was stationed. They were too painful a reminder of my own abortion.
The first time I saw the pile of tiny, empty shoes was during another event at our state capitol building in Des Moines where I shared my personal story publicly for the first time. But there, speaking to our state legislators, I knew that I was being set on a course to help babies live and not die.
But at the Iowa Events Center this year, I sensed a marked stake was set deeply into the ground for the sake of life. Prolifers are being unified now more than ever, and new, strong relationships are being forged.
So thank you, Josh, and the thousands of others who are sticking your necks out to share your opinion so that others may live. We’re in this, and are making a difference.
